Scar Camouflage

Tattooing

Scar camouflage tattoo is an advanced micropigmentation or paramedical tattoo procedure using colour pigments to blend and camouflage hyperpigmented scar tissue to your natural skin tone. Your natural skin tone and colour is assessed to discuss what colour would be best suited to your treatment area. Lifestyle choices including sun exposure, as well as, predisposed tanning habits of your skin will be discussed as these are incredibly important factors to allow for seasonal variations in your skin tone where the tattooed area will be more noticeable. Health factors including your use of medications and hormonal imbalances will also play a role in decision making for your best possible result.

Prior to skin camouflage procedures MCA Skin Needling or other laser resurfacing procedures may be recommended to smooth overall skin texture allowing for optimal implantation of colour pigment or for the purpose of lightening pink or purple areas.

Not everyone is a suitable candidate for SCT. Scars and skin discolouration that is darker than your natural skintone cannot be camouflaged a lighter colour. This includes any visible pink or purple tones. In some cases tissue may need more time to heal from injury. In other cases IPL, fractional laser, RF or skin needling combined with homecare product may be recommended in an attempt to remove pigmentation. This can often be enough and other times SCT may then be performed if desired.

Frequently Asked

Questions

Is the treatment suitable for all skin types?

Not everyone is a suitable candidate for SCT. Scars and skin discolouration that is darker than your natural skintone cannot be camouflaged a lighter colour.

This includes any visible hues of pink or purple. In some cases tissue may need more time to heal from injury. In other cases IPL, fractional laser, RF or skin needling combined with homecare product may be recommended in an attempt to remove pigmentation. This can often be enough and other times SCT may then be performed if desired.

Inkless camouflage for white or light scars, discolouration or stretchmarks may be recommended prior to scar camouflage tattoo.

Will it hurt?

Anesthetic is typically not used in SCT as its important to see the truest colour possible being implanted into the skin. As this is a penetrative procedure there will be a small amount of discomfort, however most clients are quite comfortable and treatments do not take as long as permanent makeup.

Can I still have treatment if I am tanned?

Depending on what area of the body we are tattooing it is typically ok if you have a light to moderate tan for your first visit.

In most cases our goal is too colour match your skin tone to the colour you are most of the year (approx. 70% of the year)

Your sun and lifestyle habits are discussed with you prior to commencing treatment to determine the best annual treatment time for you.

SKIN NEEDLING / MCA SCAR RELAXATION

MCA otherwise known as Multitrepannic Collagen Actuation or scar relaxation is a non pigmented camouflage treatment similar to skin needling assisting individuals in healing disfigurement after skin trauma and scarring from accident, injury, surgery or genetically.

MCA has a plumping effect reducing the depth of pitted, depressed and shallow scarring creating a more even epidermal surface. Hypertropic scars can be flattened. Contracted scar tissue formed from burns or accidents causing limited mobility and flexibility can be relaxed and broken down. Hypopigmented areas can often be stimulated for a natural recolouration in the skin. In certain cases a pigmented scar camouflage method would then be used to blend hyperpigmented areas to your natural skin tone as a second stage to this procedure.

FRACTIONAL LASER

This laser works by reorganising collagen fibres within the scar tissue, giving it a smoother appearance. Also, the laser drills very fine columns into the skin, and it is possible to apply cortisone topically immediately after laser to help reduce the activity in the scar and flatten it breaking down the scar tissue and allowing for a smoother surface and texture where colour pigment can then be implanted (tattooed) smooth and consistently to conceal your scars .

Scar Camouflage Tattoo has a much better result once scar tissue has been broken down and the skin has a softer texture.
